Nurse Apprentice - RN

Full Job Description

Position Summary: A nurse apprentice provides professional nursing care in accordance with learned skills at a nationally accredited program under the supervision of the Director of Nursing.

*You must be currently enrolled in a pre-licensure RN or PN nursing program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Completes all assigned tasks in a timely manner.

  • Always displays a positive attitude.

  • Treats residents, visitors and fellow employees with courtesy, respect and dignity.

  • Adheres to established dress code.

  • Meets acceptable Company attendance requirements.

  • Follows established safety and infection control precautions, policies and procedures.

  • Attends and participates in in-service training programs as mandated by regulatory agencies/Company policy.

  • Accepts work assignments from supervisor willingly and takes ownership of job responsibilities.

  • Follows Company meal and break policy.

  • Uses supplies without wasting.

  • Assist patients with daily living activities like bathing and dressing and perform simple medical procedures, such as changing bandages, removing staples, taking vital signs, administering EKGs, and establishing IVs.

  • Specimen collection, patient transport, changing linens, and helping the patient become familiar with their room and the facility.

  • Contribute to care planning, charting vital signs, recording fluid intake and urine output, and participating in staff meetings.

  • Performs any miscellaneous work assignments as required.

  • Upon hire and at the beginning of each new semester it is the responsibility of the student to provide to the hiring facility verification of enrollment as well as a current clinical skills checklist.

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a program of nursing that is approved by that state’s board of nursing.

  • A student’s eligibility to participate in the Nurse Apprentice Program ends upon graduation or failure to progress in the program for any reason.

  • Upon graduation, the student becomes a graduate nurse and must possess an Interim Permit to practice nursing. At this time, the Nurse Apprentice will be offered a new job title as a Licensed Nurse (RN or LPN).

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.

  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
