Director of Advocacy and Government Relations

Remote Position

Salary Range $95k-$110k

SUMMARY

The Director of Advocacy and Government Relations will play a key role in managing policy and legislative advocacy efforts. This role involves advocating for Sevita’s policy positions, maintaining relationships with government officials and collaborating with industry and association partners to support substantive policies at the federal and state levels. The Director will report to the Vice President, Government Relations and will work closely with state, regional, and national business leaders, contractors, and public officials to align Sevita’s advocacy efforts with its overall policy and legislative strategy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function listed below:

• Create and implement advocacy campaign plans to advance Sevita’s goals and agenda by working collaboratively with internal and external teams to develop strategies and implement tactics.

• Lead cross-functional teams (both internal and external) across multiple markets.

• Build advocacy coalitions: develop and maintain relationships with state teams, external partners, and trade associations.

• Advance responses to state and federal regulations and coordinate commenting strategies.

• Write compelling advocacy content including fact sheets, action alerts, policy briefs, statements, and social media posts.

• Represent Sevita in meetings with elected officials, on company/trade association-related committees, and at seminars and conferences. In collaboration with the VP and state leadership, develop relationships, with key elected officials, policymakers, and system leaders. Amplify our agenda.

• Manage rapid responses to policy changes.

• Support and organize advocacy events such as Hill Day’s, tours, and meetings with elected officials and state teams.

• Foster partnerships and offer technical assistance to coalition partners.

• Monitor and collect metrics on advocacy work across the organization.

• Working with the VP, assist with PAC organization and coordination.

• Be a detailed yet visionary and strategic leader.

• Have strong verbal and written communication skills across a broad variety of platforms.

• Be a self-starter and team player with the ability to set and meet deadlines.

• Performs other related duties and activities as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Makes decisions on employee’s hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves employee problems within position responsibilities.

Minimum Knowledge and Skills required by the Job

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required to perform the job:

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree

• At least 7 years of experience in state or federal government, politics, health policy or another related field.

• 2 years of experience using the Voter Voice Advocacy platform.

• Preferred experience with Medicaid fiscal, regulatory, and political dynamics is preferred, but not required.

• Trave l required. Estimated travel 25%

  • Travel as needed for state meetings, events, and conferences.

  • Position is eligible for mileage and/or travel expenses such as hotel and rental car.

    Physical Requirements :

    • Normal office work, data entry, sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
